Fairfield Hospital is a step closer to its biggest upgrade in 35 years with the appointment of the redevelopment project’s lead design team.

The NSW Government is investing $550 million to expand and upgrade Fairfield Hospital to meet the healthcare needs of the rapidly growing community in Sydney’s south-west.

In the coming months, the lead design team will work with Health Infrastructure and South Western Sydney Local Health District to identify future service requirements and commence early planning for the site.

"NSW Government is investing in modern healthcare facilities to ensure frontline healthcare staff can continue to deliver the world-class care our communities deserve," said Minister for Health Ryan Park.

“This redevelopment will deliver sustainable, purpose-built new health facilities which can meet our health needs for generations to come."

The scope of the Fairfield Hospital redevelopment will be finalised during the planning and design phase and construction timeframes will be confirmed once a builder is engaged.

The redevelopment is also set to create local employment opportunities in health, technology, and support services.

The design team includes architect Architectus, and project manager Turner & Townsend and cost manager Genus Advisory, who were appointed following a competitive tender process.

South Western Sydney Local Health District Chief Executive Sonia Marshall said the redevelopment of Fairfield Hospital will significantly enhance the healthcare of the community.

“The hospital redevelopment is the foundation of a new ‘health neighbourhood’ for the Fairfield area, which will provide contemporary, integrated health care close to home," Ms Marshall said.

Staff, stakeholders and the community will be kept informed and consulted as the project progresses.

Fairfield Hospital consumer Samia Sayad welcomed the announcement.

“I am thrilled my local hospital will benefit from a major redevelopment and I am looking forward to having the opportunity to contribute to the planning process," Ms Sayed said.

“I am very proud to be a part of the diverse community here in Fairfield and I encourage local people from all our cultural groups to help shape the future of our hospital.

“Their involvement in this major redevelopment will help to ensure our future hospital meets our community’s needs.’’
